From September 26th 2006 to March 31st 2007

Come and explore the forest heritage in the Chemin de Dames area. Through sounds, smells, pictures, objects and archive documents, you will immerse yourself deep into the atmosphere of the forests before, during and after WW1. The fighting left the trees crushed or riddled with hails of bullets, while the soils were deeply remodelled and polluted. Rebuilding the devastated forest would take at least a generation. In 1927, maybe as desire to hide the scars left by the war, the damaged land situated on the front line was given to the Forestry Commission in order to be reforested. Today, the scenery is the result of this tragic time, which trees still seem to remember.
