On March 23rd, 1918, Paris suffered bombings once again. But
this time, the city was not attacked by airplanes, but by cannons
whitch had been installed 120 kilometres from capital city, in the
Aisne département.
The very efficient "Pariser Kanonen", which were
called "Berthas" by the French, were producted by
Alfred Krupp's armaments factories in Germany. Canon shots fired
until August 9th, 1918, in a view to demoralizing the Parisian
population.
These cannons, which were dismantled before the Armistice end
destroyed in Germany, never fell into the hands of the Allies and
would make deep and long-lasting imprints in the collective
imagination and memory on the French.
